10 ways to extend Apple Watch battery life


With the Apple Watch, you have a real computer on your wrist, with apps, notifications, fitness tracking, and a phone if you’ve started the mobile version.

But, as the Apple Watch ages, and updates and new software features are added, the two-day battery life can begin to disappear. On my Apple Watch Series 6, it started happening after the watchOS 10 update. What could easily get me two days started giving me only one day of use.

For you, it could be watchOS, new features, or the simple fact that your little Apple Watch battery is just too old. Regardless of what’s draining your battery life, there are a few settings you can change that will help increase your Apple Watch’s battery life dramatically.

Close Regular Display

This is a big one, but by doing this, you’re actually killing the biggest selling point of the new Apple Watches. However, I think it’s worth it. For me, turning off the Always On Display is like going back to the days of the Series 0 and Series 3 Apple Watches, watches I owned and loved.

When you turn off Always On Display, your Apple Watch won’t display the time or trouble information in other cases. Only when you raise your wrist will you see the display light up. This happens so quickly that, after a day or two, I stopped caring that my display wasn’t always on. Yes, I miss looking at the time on the screen every now and then, but that’s okay. It is important for battery benefits. If you do nothing in this list, and turn off Always On Display, you should still notice a difference.

To disable this feature, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Always Work then turn off the Always Done feature.

While you’re here, try some tweaks. You can reduce the time the display stays on or reduce the brightness to save even more battery.

Disable Background App Refresh

You don’t really need Background App Refresh for Apple Watch apps, even if you use a lot of them. Apps running in the background, which update frequently, are not good for your battery life.

Try to turn it off from Settings > Summary > Background App Recovery to see if it destroys battery life.

Disable cellular connection when you don’t need it

If you have a Cellular Apple Watch, it might be a good idea to turn off the cellular connection when you don’t need it. Depending on your location, it may search for signal mode often, which eats up your battery life.

You can quickly enable or disable cellular connectivity from Settings app. Go to Cell phones then turn off the Cell phones toggle. You can quickly come back here to enable it whenever you need to.

You can also quickly turn off notifications for any device that currently has notifications on Apple Watch. Swipe left on the notification, tap the three dots List button and select to Shut up choice.

Reducing the number of notifications on your Apple Watch will not only help your Apple Watch’s battery life, but also your mental health. Every time you get a new notification, your Apple Watch screen lights up, the device vibrates, and you hear a loud notification tone (if you’re not always using Silent Mode, as you should be). . Too many notifications in one day will affect Apple Watch battery life.

You can do this from your iPhone. Here, open Look app and go to Notifications part. Now, go app-by-app and turn off the notifications you don’t want to receive on your Apple Watch.

It’s a good idea to do a hardware review for your Apple Watch. By default, Apple Watch installs compatible versions of every iPhone app you download. You can turn this off by opening the iPhone Watch app and going to My Watch > Summary > Automatic installation of the App.

Then go to the bottom of the My Watch section, select the app and turn it off Launch the App on Apple Watch the option to remove the device from the Apple Watch.

I love using widgets on my Apple Watch, so I keep them close by. But you can remove them from the Smart Stack to save battery life. Widgets update in the background with new information even when you’re not actively using your Apple Watch.

On the watch face, swipe up to see Smart Stack. Swipe left on the widget and tap on X button to remove it quickly. Repeat for all the widgets you want to remove.

Hello Siri

Turn off Siri on Apple Watch.

Siri on the Apple Watch isn’t great, to be honest. And I tried to make it work, many, many times. That’s reason enough to block it, and so is the gain in battery life. You can turn off the “Hey, Siri” phrase that the Watch keeps searching for, and you can still use Siri by long-pressing the Digital Crown.

Go to Settings > Secret and to Ask Siri part, select the Listen For button. Here, click on It turns off button to turn off the feature.

In a pinch, use the Power Mode

Like the iPhone, the Apple Watch also has a Low Power Mode. But here, it is very restrictive. I would not recommend you to use it regularly. But, let’s say you need to make sure you spend a long time in the evening or overnight – doing this in the afternoon would be a good idea.

Press go The side button to open Control Center then choose Battery button. Then, tap the button Low Power Mode button, scroll down the page, and tap the yellow one Turn on button.

Block health features you don’t need

Apple Watch is great for fitness and health tracking. But both these apps do a lot of things in the background which can eat up battery life. However, asking you to turn off all health tracking features is difficult. Some of them may be important to you. Things like abnormal heart rate tracking, or noise level tracking. This is very personal, but if you feel like you don’t need the health feature, you can try turning it off for a while to see if it really affects your Apple Watch’s battery life.

If you have an Apple Watch that supports Blood Oxygen tracking, you can go to Settings > Blood Oxygen > Blood Oxygen Measurements to turn it off.

To turn off Irregular Rhythm tracking, go to Settings > Heart > Unusual Rhythm.

To turn off noise tracking, go to Settings > Noise > Environmental Sound Measurements > Measure Sounds.

Finally, resort to factory reset

Factory reset doesn’t work for everyone. But if you’ve tried everything and your Apple Watch is healthy, it might be a good idea to at least give it a try. It gives you a clean slate to start with, installing only the essentials. And if the battery drain is due to a system issue, such as a new watchOS update, a clean reset can help.

Go to Settings > Summary > Reset then choose the one Clear All Content and Settings choice. When you’re going to pair it with your iPhone again, you don’t need to turn off Find My or the Cellular plan.
